Catalina Island Pottery and Tile, 1927-1937: Island Treasures
Published in Hardcover by Schiffer Publishing (January, 2001)

An Accurate Catalina Pottery History (Way over due)This is the best guide (there have been few)that has been released to date. The best thing about it are the accurate time frames and the pricing for the individual pieces. Plus the glaze and clay content history are very helpful!!! Get this while you can, because knowing Schiffer books, it will go out of print soon!!

Cross My Heart (Hidden Diary, 1)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (May, 2001)

Cross My HeartAdolescence is like a roller coaster: there are ups, there are downs, there are times when you stomach fall to the ground, yet there are times when you are totally exhilarated. Lucy Larson takes the ups-and-downs of a young girl's "complicated" life, and relates it flawlessly to its reader. The issues dealth with are realistic and easy to imagine and relate to, even as an adult reader who is past this stage of development. Lucy Larson is a typical, young girl dealing with typical trials. It is interesting to watch as Lucy struggles with decisions about what her summer may include when her parents give her the option to decide what she wishes to do with it. This book clearly depicts how important friendships and relatedness truly are--especially to those in this age bracket--and the emotions that emerge when these needs are not met. Cross My Heart takes a peek at the relationship between daughter and parents, as well as realistically portraying how a teen may deal with situations when Dad and Mom are not seeing eye-to-eye. There is a lot to learn from young Lucy while reading this novel. Christianity plays a minor, almost secondary role throughout the book--until the last few chapters. I feel it would be more worthwhile and meaningful to stretch these ideas throughout the entire book. The last chapter was overwhelming with religious overtones so much that it's easy to lose site of Lucy's current dilemma and overall plot that carried the reader through the book to its happy ending.
Cross My Heart (The Hidden Diary,1)Iliked this book because it teaches you all about your...Real Friends and People you can Trust.
This book kept me so interested in reading I didnot want to put it down.
I like how Lucy and Serena are always there for each other and they have a great relationship.

Boating and Diving Catalina Island
Published in Paperback by Black Dolphin Diving (July, 2000)
Average review score:

No detail on Dive sites, Buy a map instead.... Many of the sites get just 6 to 10 words of descritption, NONE of the sites have "detailed" descriptions. There is no dive info in this book thats not included in the symbols on my boater's map. There are no GPS coordinates for the shipwrecks listed, and I've found some of the other coordinates are way off. ... (fish cooking and cleaning info was helpful to me)
Not very informative, GPS coordinates WAY OFF!Book lists info and approx location for 35 shipwrecks, but only gives GPS coordinates for 2 (TWO) of them!!! Of the 9 dive spots I've entered in my computer map (Magellan Mapsend), 4 were off by over a quarter mile (Lava Wall Beach, Seal Point, etc). One dive spot is 600 yards inland. I mean, if the book was free, that would be one thing. But I paid good money for it and now I realize there is no reason to enter any of the coordinates, because there is no way to tell which ones are even close. I just now stopped entering in my GPS program and went to Amazon to write this review. The author should be embarrassed.
Essential reading for anyone planning a dive or boating tripThis book is a must have for anyone planning to enjoy the pristine waters of Catalina Island. As a harbor patrolman I'm sure he's heard and seen it all. He has all the essential information for a dive or boating trip without bogging you down with opinions on restaurants and hotels that I won't be using. If you want a guide for clubbing and eating this is the wrong book for you. If you want to get insider knowledge on where to go for a great time in the water than this is the right book.

Haunted Catalina: A History of the Island and Guide to Paranormal Activity
Published in Paperback by G-HOST PUBLISHING ()
Average review score:

Fun ghosts but shaky historyWish I could agree with the previous reviewer, but, as someone who knows a fair amount about the Island's history, I feel compelled to say that a lot of the "history" in this book is not accurate! Ghost stories abound on the Island and it's fun that they've been documented. But don't count on all the history being accurate!
An enjoyable readI purchased this book on a visit to Catalina Island, and finished it before our boat returned to the mainland. It is a very enjoyable read, with wonderful historical photographs to help you picture the situations they are discussing.
It is up to the reader to decide if they believe the stories presented here. If you have an open mind and are willing to entertain the possibility, you will enjoy the book. The added bonus, is that you also learn a lot about the history of this charming island.
